Discover Our MissionAbout Australian Wildlife Rescues
Australian Wildlife Rescues (AWR) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and release of native Australian animals. Founded in 2010 by a small group of passionate conservationists, our mission has grown into a nationwide network of volunteers, veterinarians, and wildlife carers. We believe that every animal deserves a chance to live a wild and free life. Our work focuses not only on the immediate care of injured and orphaned animals but also on long-term conservation strategies, including habitat restoration and community education. We operate 24/7, responding to calls from the public to help animals in distress, providing them with the critical care they need to recover and thrive back in their natural environment. Our vision is a future where humans and wildlife can coexist harmoniously, ensuring the survival of Australia's unique and precious fauna for generations to come.

Inspiring Rescue Stories

Ruby's Second Chance
Ruby, an orphaned kangaroo joey, was found alone by the side of a remote road. Weighing just under a kilogram, her chances were slim. Our rapid response team provided immediate warmth and hydration, starting a long and delicate rehabilitation process. Thanks to the round-the-clock care of her dedicated foster parent, Ruby grew strong and healthy. She learned to socialize with other rescued kangaroos in a semi-wild enclosure, preparing her for her eventual return to the wild. This story highlights the resilience of these amazing animals and the profound impact of compassionate care.

Buster's Bushfire Survival
Buster was rescued from a devastating bushfire, suffering from severe burns to his paws and dehydration. Our veterinary team performed intricate procedures to treat his wounds and manage his pain. During his months-long recovery, Buster's gentle and trusting nature won the hearts of our entire staff. We utilized specialized climbing structures to help him regain his strength and confidence. Releasing a fully recovered Buster back into a regenerating forest was an emotional and rewarding moment for everyone involved, a true symbol of nature's ability to heal and our role in assisting that process.

Spike's Road to Recovery
Spike the echidna was brought to our center after being hit by a car. While his protective spines saved him from major external injuries, he had significant internal trauma. Our team used advanced diagnostic imaging to assess the damage and provide the specialized care he needed. Echidnas are notoriously shy and difficult to treat, but our experienced carers created a quiet, low-stress environment to facilitate his healing. After several weeks of careful monitoring and a specialized diet, Spike was given a clean bill of health and released back into a safe, protected habitat far from busy roads.
Our Conservation Impact
Our work extends beyond individual rescues. We are committed to creating a lasting impact through research, habitat restoration, and data collection. By understanding the threats Australian wildlife faces, we can develop more effective conservation strategies for the future.
Our Supporters & Partners
Our life-saving work is only possible through the generous support of our community and corporate partners. We extend our deepest gratitude to these organizations for their commitment to Australian wildlife.
